Foilayage in Chicago
Foilayage is what happens when you combine the two best things about highlights and balayage into one technique. Foils at the root for brightness and lift, blended into freehand painting through the mid-lengths and ends for a natural, seamless finish. It’s our most-requested color service at Reverie — and for good reason.
Why it works so well
Traditional highlights give you brightness but grow out with a hard line. Traditional balayage gives you seamless grow-out but can’t always achieve the same level of lift. Foilayage gives you both: the brightness of foils where you want it most (near the root and around the face) without the maintenance headache of a visible regrowth line.
The foil portion lifts the root area efficiently using controlled heat. Once that section is placed, your colorist switches to freehand painting through the rest of the strand — feathering the lightener so there’s no hard stop where foil meets balayage. The result looks like one cohesive technique, not two different ones stitched together.
Who it’s for
Honestly, most people. If you want bright, dimensional blonde that doesn’t demand a touch-up every 6 weeks, foilayage is probably the right choice. It works on every hair color and length, though it’s especially popular with clients who want to be lighter around the face without going full-foil everywhere.
It’s also great for clients transitioning from traditional highlights to something lower-maintenance. Instead of a hard regrowth line, you get a gradual blend that looks intentional even at week 12.
