About cheap, fast "balayage"
If a salon promises balayage in 90 minutes at a bargain price, here's what's usually happening: it's foil highlights with a balayage label, rushed, often skipping the toner. Sometimes that's fine! Foils are a legitimate technique — we use them too, and there are even cases where foils genuinely serve a balayage result better (I wrote about exactly that in should balayage be done with foils). But you should know what you're buying. Hand-painted dimension with a custom tone is a different product than express foils, and the timeline is the tell.
The good news about the investment
Balayage is the rare color service where the price buys you less maintenance, not more. Because the placement is soft and rooted, it grows out without a hard line — most clients go three to four months between sessions, some longer.
