Wedding hair has changed. The stiff, over-sprayed updos that dominated ten years ago are mostly gone — replaced by something that actually looks like the bride wearing it.
At Reverie, our bridal team (led by Maria Korinek, who's done hundreds of Chicago weddings) sees the same trends surfacing over and over in 2026. Here's what's actually being requested — not what Pinterest algorithms want you to think is trending.
Soft, undone texture is everywhere
The biggest shift: brides want their hair to look like their hair, just elevated. Loose waves with a few pieces falling around the face. Half-up styles that don't look engineered. Low buns that could plausibly survive a dance floor.
The technical challenge here is making something look effortless when it needs to hold for 14 hours straight. That's where product knowledge matters — we use a combination of Davines More Inside texturizing products and K18 for structural integrity without stiffness.
Hair accessories, but make them subtle
Jeweled headpieces are giving way to simpler things. Gold pins placed asymmetrically. A single comb tucked into a chignon. Fresh flowers woven into a braid — just a few stems, not a full garden.
The trend is toward one statement element rather than a fully decorated head. It photographs better, too — busy accessories compete with your dress and your face in photos.
Color before the wedding
More brides are booking color appointments 2–3 weeks before the wedding specifically to get their hair photo-ready. Usually a few face-framing highlights or a gloss to add dimension. The goal isn't a dramatic change — it's making sure your hair catches light beautifully under all those photographer's flashes.
We always recommend a balayage or gloss appointment at least two weeks out. Close enough that the color is fresh, far enough that it's settled in and looks natural.
The trial matters more than you think
A lot of brides treat the trial as optional. It's not. The trial is where we figure out what works with your face shape, your dress neckline, your veil weight, and your comfort level. Some people discover they hate having their hair fully up. Others realize they need more volume than they thought.
We book trials 4–8 weeks before the wedding. You'll walk out with photos from every angle, a plan for day-of, and a product list for how to prep your hair in the weeks leading up.
Day-of logistics
Maria and our bridal team come to you — hotel, venue, wherever you're getting ready. We build the timeline backwards from your ceremony, then add buffer time because someone always needs a last-minute adjustment.
Bridal party hair is available too. Bridesmaids, mothers, flower girls. One team, one aesthetic, everyone done on time.
