Grey Transition Chicago | The Bespoke Grey Transition with Sal Misseri

The Bespoke Grey Transition — Chicago

The Bespoke Grey Transition takes you off permanent colour and into your natural grey without a line, without a chop, and without ever looking mid-project. Sal Misseri leads every one himself, in River North. Transition Day starts at $1,200 for a half day and $2,400 for a full day, and begins with a $150 consult.

Who it is for

If you have been colouring your roots with permanent colour, there is a band in your hair where the colour stops and the grey begins. Gray blending cannot hide that band; it has to be broken. That is the transition. It is for people who are done with the four-week root cycle and want to arrive at their natural colour looking considered the whole way through.

If you are not on permanent colour and simply want your grey to look intentional, you want gray blending, from $170, with the whole colour team.

How it works

  1. The Consult. Thirty minutes with Sal. He reads your face, your head shape, the way you dress and carry yourself, and the condition and history of your hair. You leave with a written plan: the silhouette you are heading for, what happens on Transition Day, and what the sessions after it look like. $150, credited in full toward any service or product within 30 days.
  2. The Readiness Plan. Some hair is ready now. Some is not: a band that is too recent, hair too compromised by box colour or henna, or grey that has not come in far enough. Sal will tell you to wait, usually three to six months, and the plan says exactly what to do in the meantime and who on the team does it. He would rather you wait than pay for a day that gives half the result.
  3. Transition Day. The band is broken, the grey is placed and blended, and the new shape is cut, in one sitting with Sal. Half day (up to four hours) from $1,200. Full day (up to eight hours) from $2,400. Which one you need is decided at the consult and written down; nobody is ever surprised by the number.
  4. The Rhythm. Every 8 to 12 weeks until the grow-out is complete, then maintenance. Each session is in the plan with its price. Once the band is gone the rhythm can be handed to Vicki O'Connor or Marissa White at Sal's call, at their prices.

What the day buys

Six to eight hours in Sal's chair is not a long colour appointment. It is a transition designed before it starts: the cut planned to grow into the next shape, the grey placed where the light hits your face, the colour that stays chosen for the clothes you actually wear. It is the reason the result does not look like growing out. It looks like a decision.

A journey, not one day

The Bespoke Grey Transition is a journey, not a one-and-done appointment. Taken too fast, a transition ends in brassy, damaged hair: the colour is forced out in one sitting and the hair pays for it a month later. Most of the transition photos online are filtered and taken on the day; they never show the same hair six or eight weeks on. Our goal is different: hair that looks graceful and beautiful at every stage of the grow-out, not only at the end. That also means it will not be solid grey or silver from the start. Transition Day sets the direction; the sessions after it carry you the rest of the way, on a schedule that keeps the hair healthy.

Pricing, plainly

Transition Day: half day from $1,200, full day from $2,400, with Sal only. Consult $150, credited. Toner from $75. Readiness and Rhythm sessions at each stylist's price, shown online before you confirm. The exact plan is quoted in writing at the consult, never by phone, text or chat.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between gray blending and a grey transition?

Gray blending works with natural grey and adds highlights, lowlights and gloss so it looks intentional. A grey transition removes permanent colour and the band it leaves, so your natural grey can grow in without a line. Blending starts at $170 with the colour team; the transition is Sal's, from $1,200.

How much does a grey transition cost in Chicago at Reverie?

Transition Day with Sal Misseri starts at $1,200 for a half day and $2,400 for a full day, after a $150 consult that is credited toward the work. Sessions after it are quoted in your written plan.

Why might Sal tell me to wait?

Because the result depends on the hair being ready. If the band is too fresh, the hair too damaged, or the grey not far enough in, he will give you a three-to-six-month plan first. It costs you nothing extra and makes the day worth it.

Will I have a line while it grows out?

No. Each session is planned so you never look mid-project.

How long does the whole transition take?

Usually two to five sessions over six to eighteen months, depending on how much permanent colour is on the hair and how fast it grows.

Can I keep some colour?

Yes. Many transitions keep warmth or depth around the face; the plan decides where.

Who does the grey transition at Reverie?

Sal Misseri, founder of Reverie and Kaizen Education, leads every transition himself. Maintenance sessions may be handed to Vicki O'Connor or Marissa White.

How do I start?

Book The Reverie Consult with Sal online, or call (312) 955-0083.

Will my hair be fully grey or silver after Transition Day?

No. The Bespoke Grey Transition is a journey. Transition Day breaks the band and sets the direction; your natural grey comes in over the sessions that follow. Rushing it in one sitting is how transitions end up brassy and damaged, so we plan it to look graceful and beautiful at every stage, not only at the end.
