What Keratherapy actually does

A keratin treatment infuses the hair shaft with a liquid keratin-protein formula, then uses heat to seal it into the cuticle. It doesn’t bone-straighten your hair — it relaxes the frizz and smooths the cuticle while keeping your natural texture intact.

How long it lasts

Typically 3–6 months, fading gradually. You won’t wake up one morning with the frizz suddenly back — it eases out over time, so even at month four your hair is still more manageable than it was before the treatment.

How long it lasts on you depends on three things: how often you wash (the more washes, the faster it fades), the products you use (sulfate-free shampoo is non-negotiable), and how much heat-styling you do.

What the appointment looks like

Plan for about 2–3 hours depending on your hair’s length and density. The process:

1. Clarifying wash. We use a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup so the keratin can fully penetrate.
2. Application. Section by section, the Keratherapy formula is applied evenly through the hair.
3. Processing. Time for the formula to absorb.
4. Blow-dry & flat-iron seal. High-heat flat-iron passes seal the keratin into the cuticle.
5. Style out. You leave the salon already smooth.

Aftercare — this part matters

Keratin treatments live or die by aftercare. Follow this and you’ll get the full 6 months. Skip it and you’ll be back in 8 weeks.

• Wait 24–72 hours before your first wash (we’ll tell you the exact window for your treatment).
• Sulfate-free shampoo only. No exceptions. Sulfates strip the keratin out fast. We carry sulfate-free options from Davines at the salon.
• Avoid chlorine and salt water when possible — or rinse and condition immediately if exposed.
• Weekly K18 treatment is a great pairing — it keeps internal bonds strong as the keratin coating gradually wears down.

Keratherapy keratin treatments at Reverie start at $500. Final pricing depends on your hair’s length and density — we quote exactly at consultation, no surprises at checkout. Add-ons like a haircut, gloss, or treatment can be combined into the same appointment.

The formaldehyde question

We get asked about this a lot. The Keratherapy formulations we use are low-formaldehyde / formaldehyde-free depending on the specific product line. We’ll talk you through the exact formula at your consultation so you know what’s going on your hair. Our stylists are trained in proper ventilation and application technique, and the salon is well-ventilated throughout the service.
